Delta 2022: Oyo fulfils cash incentives pledge to medallists

Oyo State government at the weekend fulfilled its pledge of cash incentives to the state’s medallists at the ongoing 21st National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State.

Recall Oyo State through the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Seun Fakorede, had promised the state’s athletes instant cash reward of N20,000 for every gold won at Delta 2022 as silver medallist was promised N10,000 while each bronze medallist will receive N5,000.

Chairman, Oyo State Sports Council, Gbenga Adewusi while addressing the athletes in their camp on behalf of the state government, said that Governor Seyi Makinde is excited about the development in the camp of Team Oyo.

“As you all know that the State Governor through the Commissioner for Youth and Sports promised instant cash rewards for any athlete that wins gold, silver or bronze medal at Delta 2022, we are here tonight to fulfil the promise. Our sports-loving governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde is always ready to motivate those who have won medals here and yet to compete in their events. This will also serve as a wake up call to others that their achievements and efforts won’t be in vain.

“Team Oyo has just started, we expect more gold medals as from tomorrow across centers. We won’t be carried away by the medals we have won so far,” Arole said.

He also promised to reward each gold medallist with N5,000 too as he stated that all outstanding allowances of the athletes would be paid in due course.

Meanwhile, after Day IV, Team Oyo has amassed five gold, nine silver and five bronze medals.
