The head coach of Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure, Duke Udi, has been sacked after an alleged misconduct and insubordination.
Consequently, the former coach of the team, Henry Abiodun has been asked to take over the team.
This was contained in a statement issued and signed by the state Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Mr Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye and made available to journalists in Akure, on Tuesday.
Yusuf-Ogunleye said the decision to sack Udi was sequel to letters received from the Ondo State Football Agency over the act of insubordination and gross misconduct.
He said the decision to sack the coach was taken at the meeting of the management and board of the team.
“Following a letter received from the management board of Ondo State Football Agency on misconduct and insubordination of the head coach of the Sunshine Stars Duki Udi, has been asked to step aside,”Tusuf-Ogunleye said in the statement.
“The management, board and the Ministry of Youth and Sports management at a joint meeting today [Tuesday] agreed that coach Duki UDdi should step aside with effect from today, 13th March and the Technical Director of the team, coach Henry Abiodun with CAF licence A should lead the team,” the statement said.
Reacting to the development, Udi told journalists by phone that he had not been contacted on the matter, saying that he had just left the team’s training at the time.
“If it is so, that is no problem. I have one year contract with the team and if anybody is asking me to leave, they must respect my contract and pay my money.
“Leaving is not a problem. I just left training and nobody told me anything like that, but if stepping aside is the next thing, they have to pay me because I have a year contract running,” Udi stated.
