Eagles star, Onobi, signs for Abia Warriors

Abia Warriors FC have completed the signing of Super Eagles midfielder, Paul Onobi, from KUP FC of Finland to strengthen the team ahead of the 2017 Nigeria Professional Football League season.

Abia Warriors boss, Chief Emeka Inyama who announced the signing of Onobi from the Finnish side exclusively informed Sportstalkafrica.com that the former Sunshine Stars midfielder has penned a two-year deal with the Ochendo Boys side.

“Onobi is a young midfielder with great natural talent and has the potential to become one of the best around. He has signed a two years contract and I think it’s a big plus for us.

“We want to challenge for every competition we involve ourselves in next season and that’s why we secured the services of the best players in the league,” the former chairman Nigeria National League said.

Onobi, was an home-based integral player of the Nigeria senior team midfield when Sunday Oliseh was still the head of the Eagles technical crew.

It will be recalled Oliseh picked Onobi ahead of John Mikel Obi, when Super Eagles played against Swaziland in one of the World Cup qualifiers and his performance got him the lucrative deal to the Finnish club side.

Abia Warriors ended the 2015/2016 NPFL season 13th on the log with 48 points, but they are poised for greatness with new coach and have so far recruited exceptional players ahead of new season that is scheduled to kick off this weekend.
