Shooting Stars Sports Club’s highest goal scorer last season in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), Sunday Adetunji has said he joined Abia Warriors to face new challenges and to win laurels in his career.
The striker, who scored 10 goals for 3SC last season, says he hopes to score at least 20 goals this season scheduled to begin on Sunday.
Adetunji stated that he left 3SC due to financial issue as he was being owed salaries.
“I need fresh challenges and that is why I moved to Abia Warriors. I want to win laurels with my new team. I also want to contest for the highest goal scorer of the season and my target is to score 20 goals for Abia Warriors.
“Again, money is involved, at 3SC, I was not paid the salary I negotiated in the first instance. I was even owed seven months salary as well as arrears of the previous season.
“My target this season is to surpass my last season’s record and possibly win the goal king award with 20 goals,” said the lanky striker whose 10 goals last season were recorded in five games.
Meanwhile, the former El-Kanemi Warriors says Sunday’s opener against reigning NPFL champions, Enugu Rangers will be a tough one as they want to shock the Flying Antelopes on their home soil.
“The match against Rangers will be a survival for the fittest. we are very much determined to win the match and we have prepared very well. I hope to do well and help my team win the match because in football, nothing is impossible,” Adetunji said.
