Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) forward, Abu Azeez has said his team are condemned to beat Enyimba today in order to brighten their hope of retaining their top-flight status.
The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match day 31 game holds at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.
The former Warri Wolves player said he and his team-mates are well prepared for the match against a team being handled by erstwhile 3SC coach, Gbenga Ogunbote.
“The preparation is intensive, everybody in the camp is in high spirits and the match against Enyimba is like any other match. There is no special preparation for the game against Enyimba. It is like any other match, no string attached.
“We are not afraid of Enyimba, we believe we have what it takes to win and we hope to achieve this on Sunday [today]. We are playing for Shooting Stars today and their players are with Enyimba, there is no cause for any worry.
“The reality is that we must win our remaining home games and pick points on the road to escape relegation and that remains our target. It is 11 [players] on either side and as I said, there is nothing special about the match. We want to win and that is just the target,” said the former Enyimba player.
He lamented the 1-1 draw recorded during the mid-week clash with Remo Stars at Sagamu saying victory would have given them some respite ahead of today’s game against the two-time African champions.
“We had wanted to pick up the maximum points against Remo Stars, we started well and had the game under control until we scored, but unfortunately, due to loss of concentration, we let in the equaliser. We have to make up for this result because getting three points at Sagamu would have lifted us on the table before Sunday’s game against Enyimba.
“For now, we have put that episode behind us and our focus now is the game against Enyimba which is a must win for us. I have absolute confidence that 3SC will not go down at the end of the season. We shall survive relegation, I am confident,” Azeez, a SuperSand Eagles prolific scorer said.
Meanwhile, the Oluyole Warriors are 17th on the table with 37 points from 30 matches.
