Enyimba yet to renew my contract —Ogunbote

Coach Gbenga Ogunbote has admitted he is not sure of staying on as Enyimba handler, saying he would welcome a managerial role elsewhere.

It was reported that two-time African champions Enyimba are shopping for a new head coach with Imama Amapakabo top on their wish list, while the team only last month reportedly talked to the former Asante Kotoko coach who led hosts, the Black Stars of Ghana to win the just-ended WAFU Cup of Nations at the expense of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Maxwell Konadu.

The Aba club will be one of two teams who will fly Nigeria’s flag in next year’s CAF Confederation Cup, having finished third in the NPFL table behind champions Plateau United and runners-up MFM FC of Lagos.

“I signed a one-year contract with Enyimba and I’m happy we delivered a continental ticket at the close of the season.

“At the moment, I don’t know if it would be renewed or not, so I would be open to offers elsewhere.

“Of course, continuity is important as I would have loved to oversee things at Enyimba.

“But I don’t want to pack all my eggs into one basket, hence I’m making it clear I would welcome offers from other clubs,” Ogunbote told SCORENigeria.

The 54-year-old tactician has had managerial spells at Shooting Stars, Sharks, FC Giwa and Sunshine Stars before a move to Enyimba last year.

Three seasons ago, Enyimba did not renew Kadiri Ikhana’s contract even after he led them to a seventh NPFL title.
