EPL: Acclaimed commentator Peter Drury set to replace Martin Tyler at Sky Sports

Acclaimed commentator Peter Drury has been named as replacement for Martin Tyler.

Tyler’s departure from Sky Sports was confirmed on Saturday evening, ending his 33 year spell with the company and the legendary commentator will be replaced by Peter Drury.

Drury, who has over 30 years of Experience covering games across TV and Radio will join a team of Sky Sports commentators including Rob Hawthorne, Seb Hutchinson, Bill Leslie, Gary Weaver, Dan Mann and Ian Crocker. He is also expected to cover one game per week for the new Premier League season.

Although he is rarely heard due to his commitments overseas, The 55-year-old is one of the game’s most experienced and popular commentators. He has won multiple broadcasting awards including Football Supporters’ Association Commentator of the Year for three of the last four seasons and will surely continue his role at the NBC, also providing commentary on their premier league coverage.

Drury said: “I’m massively excited to be joining Sky’s outstanding roster of commentators. To be working on the best games week in week out with a broadcaster that has told the Premier League story since the very beginning feels like the opportunity of my career and I can’t wait to get started.”

Drury, also a winner of the prestigious Sports Journalists’ Association Sports Commentator of the Year award in 2020, has previously worked for BBC,ITV and BT Sport.

Sky Sports director of football Gary Hughes said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming Peter Drury to Sky Sports. Peter’s one of the game’s most poetic commentators and will bring great energy and enthusiasm as well as his award-winning broadcasting experience to our unrivalled coverage of the Premier League.
