Christian Eriksen is expected to return home soon after Denmark’s national team doctor, Morten Boesen, confirmed the midfielder is recovering well following his collapse during Denmark’s international against Ukraine.
The match in Odense was halted in the 65th minute after Eriksen collapsed on the pitch.
Play was later abandoned, although the 34-year-old regained consciousness and was able to walk off the field before being taken to hospital.
Providing an update on Monday, Boesen said the Wolfsburg midfielder had responded positively to treatment and remained in high spirits.
“I spoke with Christian this morning, and he is doing well. He is with his family and in good spirits,” Boesen said.
“The expectation is that he will be discharged soon and can return home.”

Sunday’s incident revived memories of Eriksen’s cardiac arrest during Denmark’s opening match against Finland at Euro 2020, when he was resuscitated on the pitch before being fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), a device designed to monitor and correct dangerous heart rhythms.
Boesen later confirmed that the device functioned as intended during the latest emergency, saying “the pacemaker responded as it should”.
The ICD paved the way for Eriksen’s return to professional football in early 2022, eight months after his collapse at the European Championship. He resumed his career with Brentford before spending three seasons at Manchester United and later joining Wolfsburg.
Before making his comeback, Eriksen said he had complete confidence in continuing his career with the implanted device.
“I don’t see any risk, no. I have an ICD, if anything would happen then I am safe,” he added.
Neither Denmark nor Ukraine qualified for the World Cup, which begins on Thursday.
