Everton officials approach Wolverhampton coach to replace sacked Koeman

EVERTON have reportedly made an approach for Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Nuno Espirito Santo to become their new manager.

The Portuguese coach has performed a great job since taking over at Molineux in the summer.

And his efforts in leading Wolves to the top of the Championship have not gone unnoticed on Merseyside, according to Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.

He wrote on Twitter: “Everton have contacted Nuno as one of the potential candidates to replace Koeman.

“His agent Jorge Mendes is listening, no decision made yet.”

Nuno only took charge of Wolves at the end of May after he was sacked by Porto at the end of last season after just one campaign.

The 43-year-old former goalkeeper has also previously managed Rio Ave in his homeland and La Liga side Valencia.

Since his arrival in the Midlands he has managed to knit together an expensively-assembled and cosmopolitan squad and guided them into top spot.

Wolves now look to be in with a great chance of returning to the top-flight, but they could face a fight to have Nuno lead them there.

If Balague is to be believed, Everton are seriously considering offering him the job at Goodison as they continue to try and find Ronald Koeman’s replacement.
