Ex-Premier League striker Yakubu pays to watch non-league club!

The former Portsmouth, Middlesbrough and Everton star has been training with the non-league outfit, and even pays entrance fee to watch them play matches

Former Nigeria international Yakubu pays his entrance to watch local side Boreham Wood, according to the club’s manager Paul Garrard.

The former Everton frontman, who has been training with the non-league side since his return to England, has also been coaching the club’s young players in his spare time.

And while Garrard is happy to have Yakubu helping out at the club, he is also desperately trying to agree a deal for the former Premier League man to join his squad.

“Yak is courteous, he comes and watches the games, he pays entrance. He’s fully on board with what I’m doing and what the club are doing,” Garrard told BBC Three Counties Radio.

“I’m trying my hardest to get him to sign a contract. But as it stands I don’t know his current situation in terms of where he’s going or what he has planned.”

Garrard is also pleased with how his squad have taken to Yakubu after 21-year-old Morgan Ferrier, a striker that has been working closely with the Nigerian, scored seven goals from 13 outings this season.

“No disrespect to Morgan, Yak has been taking him under his wing the last three or four weeks and as long as he comes in and does that I’m happy to have Yak at the club.

“He teaches things I haven’t seen because he’s played at the highest level and in fairness to Morgan he’s all eyes and ears.”
