Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala has said that many people thought her career was over following her move from Arsenal Ladies of England to China.
The Super Falcons lethal finisher made the remarks on Thursday night in Ghana, when she was crowned Confederation of African Football CAF’s Women’s Player of the Year for the third time running.
Oshoala this time beat South Africa’s Chrestina Kgatlana and Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene of Cameroon to the award and she could not emotion after receiving the Africa gong for the third time.
“It has been an emotional season for me. When I left Arsenal for China a lot of people said ‘your career is going to be gone.’ But I told myself: ‘I can do this.’ And here we are today.
“I want to use this opportunity to encourage all the young girls out there – don’t let anyone talk you down, don’t listen to people, follow your heart.” the Dalian Quanjian of China player said.
Meanwhile, Nigerian international Kenneth Omeruo has congratulated the Lagos State-born Amazon on her treble award.
