The proprietor, Mark D Ball Basketball Championship, Mark Igoche, has called on the Federal Government to resolve the crisis bedeviling basketball in Nigeria and which has affected its growth in the last six years.
Igoche, while speaking with reporters at the end of a two-day basketball camp organised in Abuja, said it’s high time government addressed the root cause of the crisis once and for all calling on the Sports Minister and President Bola Tinubu to come to the rescue of the slam and dunk game in the country..
“The problem of basketball has been lingering and it’s still unresolved. I urge the Sports Minister, Senator John Owan Enoh and the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to tackle the root causes, rather than adopting the cosmetic approach of past governments.”
He also highlighted the importance of using sports to address some of the country’s challenges which include security and economic challenges.
“Sports can be used to tackle security and, economic challenges and unemployment. I enjoin the Federal Government to pay more attention to sports and settle the crisis in basketball, as this will yield positive dividends.
“The potential of basketball in Nigeria is enormous and with the right leadership, we can achieve great things. I believe that the government and the key stakeholders can work together to resolve the crisis and take basketball to the next level.”
