FIFA has no final say on NFF crisis ―Dalung

Nigeria’s Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, says the rule of law rather than FIFA statutes will prevail in the resolution of crisis within the Nigeria Football Federation.

FIFA had threatened  a ban on Nigeria, citing governmental interference after the Amaju Pinnick-led executive board was replaced by Chris Giwa’s but on Monday stalled action after the intervention of vice -president, Prof Yemi Osinbajo.

However, Dalung explained that the situation does not require short-term measures.

“This crisis cannot be solved with a temporary measure or scratched on the surface. The intervention of the Vice President should not be viewed as different from an attempt to abate an escalating situation,” Dalung said in a statement signed by his special adviser on media.

“We are a constitutional democracy and the doctrine of separation of powers is the foundation of democratic experience, therefore, the Rule of Law is the only mechanism that guarantees liberty and freedom of citizens.”

Meanwhile, FIFA pardoned Nigeria with the expectation that its statutes will be adhered to in the democratic process of the NFF.
