Basking on the euphoria of massive support that propelled the Nigeria’s Falconets to victory over their South Africa counterpart last weekend, Edo State government has once again called on sports fans to come out in large numbers to cheer the national U-17 female team Flamingoes to another victory in the first leg FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers billed for Uruguay.
The Flamingoes will play against Cameroon national U-17 female team at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, Benin City this Saturday to compliment the support given to their senior compatriots, Falconets who thrashed the Besetsana of South Africa by six nil thus qualified for the FIFA
U-20 Women World Cup slated for France later in the year.
Hon. Mika Amanokha, Edo State commissioner for youths and special duties made this passionate plea to Edo sports fans while urging them to come out in large numbers as usual and join the executive Governor of the state, His Excellency,Mr Godwin Obaseki, the Deputy Governor comrade Philip Shaibu and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to cheer the Flamingoes to another goals festival at the stadium.
The commissioner who used the occasion to thank the fans for their support last weekend said “Our fan should come out and let’s do it again, Governor Godwin Obaseki has turned Edo State to become the base of female football in the country, so we have to come out and enjoy the beautiful game as sports loving people.
“Governor Obaseki approval of twenty new stadia to be constructed across the state and upgrading Of Samuel Ogbemudia stadium is a clear indication that this administration is working the talk in the sports sector.
“It is the expectation of football stakeholders that the flamingoes should follow the steps of their big sisters, the Falconet’s who defeated South African by six goals to nil and having a total of eight goals on aggregate to qualify for the FIFA U-20 world cup in France.
Amanokha said It could be recalled that the coach Bala Nikyu tutored side eliminated their Ethiopian counterpart on away goal rule having played one all draw in Addis Ababa and goalless in the return leg on December 16th, 2017 in Benin City.
