The national male U20 team, the Flying Eagles, have intensified training at the Jewel Sports City training ground in Cairo where they are preparing for the AFCON U20 Championship which gets underway on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
The seven-time AFCON champions have their training under the watchful eyes of head coach, Aliyu Zubairu, who focused on team’s build up play and quick recovery and all the 24 players took part during the session.
The two-time World Cup finalist (1989 and 2005), who are in group B with Morocco, Kenya and Tunisia will kick off their campaign against the latter on Thursday, 1st May at the 30th June Stadium in Cairo.
Meanwhile, Mathew Awodi has reiterated his readiness to contribute to the success of the Flying Eagles in Egypt.
The Kings FC player noted the Junior Eagles has all what it takes to stake a claim in the forthcoming Afcon U20 tournament which gets underway on Sunday.
He said, “It’s certainly a thing of joy to represent your country in this kind of prestigious competition. I can’t express how excited I am and I am also confident our team will do well in the tournament.”
