Former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique cuts link to Blues

Luis Enrique has claimed that he has received managerial offers since leaving Barcelona, but none worth taking.

The Spaniard left the Catalan giants after the 2016/17 season when they won the Copa del Rey, but failed to win either the La Liga title or the Champions League – a feat they achieved the previous year.

Enrique has been heavily linked with the Chelsea job in recent weeks, with Antonio Conte tipped to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

But, speaking to the former Spanish cyclist Ibon Zugasti’s YouTube channel, Enrique says he is yet to be tempted by a new position.

“There has been interest from clubs, but it has to be something that really excites me,” he said.

“There’s no other club where I’ll be able to work with better players than at Barca.”

Enrique coached Celta Vigo and Roma before taking the Barcelona top job and he did admit that managing the Spanish national team is a goal.

“Coaching the national team would be great, but we’ve got Lopetegui right now, who is doing a brilliant job,” he added.

Many fans were shocked when Enrique left Barcelona after he won the treble in his first season in charge, but the man himself claimed to have no regrets over the situation.

“Maybe a lot of people in the profession were surprised,” he added. “It’s difficult to understand someone leaving Barca, with the best players in the world.

“But I was very clear [that it was the right time]. In fact, I don’t regret it all. Coaching Barca involved dedicating all your energy to the team, the club and the players. When you see the end is coming, you have to take it in, accept it and communicate it. There’s nothing else you can do.”
