Irish-born Nigerian defender and former Flying Eagles centre back, Osinachi Keleb Nwubani, has joined Bundesliga club, VfL Bochum. The 21-year-old penned a two-year contract with the option for an additional one-year extension.
Born in Ireland to Nigerian parents, Nwubani has been regarded as one of the brightest young prospects in African football. After impressing with the Flying Eagles, Nigeria’s U20 national team, the young player has now earned the opportunity to showcase his talents on the big stage in Germany.
“I’m thrilled to be joining a historic club like VfL Bochum. This is a tremendous opportunity for me, and I’m eager to give my absolute best and help the team achieve success.”
The 6ft 3 versatile defender, who can play both in the centre of defence and as a full-back, now has the chance to represent either Nigeria or the Republic of Ireland at the senior international level.
Sporting Tribune reports that both national teams have been monitoring his progress closely and his decision on which country to pledge his allegiance to will be highly anticipated.
It would be recalled that former Super Eagles skipper and coach, Sunday Oliseh, featured for Bochum during the 2003/2004 season playing 32 games with one goal to show for his efforts.
