Friendly: You can beat Mexico, Rohr tells home-based Eagles

Nigeria’s technical adviser, Gernot Rohr, has raised the level of confidence in the home-based Super Eagles currently camped in Abuja, saying they can beat El Tri of Mexico in a friendly billed for July 4 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, USA.

The German tactician who has been part of the team’s training session in Abuja said he was actually impressed with the performance of the players in the camp.

Stand-in coach, Austin Eguavoen, at the weekend announced the final 23-man squad which face the CONCACAF giants next weekend.

“They will have a difficult game, it is not impossible to win against Mexico, they have a great team but each match is open and I see here some players with good qualities,” Rohr told the Super Eagles Media team on Friday.

“They are doing well, they are learning. The home-based player are in the rhythm of the competition.

“All the Super Eagles now are actually on holidays, resuming very soon training sessions with the clubs so they could not come that’s why it’s good to encourage these home-based players.

“They are working hard, they are doing two training sessions a day and we are watching them, we are monitoring what they are doing as there will be a friendly also I hope, and a good selection for the departure to the United States.

“The coaches are doing well, Austin and Paul with my goalkeeper coach Alloy, and selection will be okay.”

Meanwhile, the North Americans have not lost to Nigeria, three-time African champions in their five previous meetings.
