Gara Gombe charges S/West administrators on 3SC and Stationery Stores

The former Chairman of Gombe United Football Club, Gara Shuaibu Gombe has called on all football stakeholders in the South West to revive the fortune of the region’s traditional football powerhouse clubs; Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan (3SC) and Stationery Stores Football Club of Lagos.

Gombe made this call at the weekend while receiving an award by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Oyo state, at The Great hall, Ibadan, to round off the association’s annual week.

Gombe who was honoured as the Sport philanthrppist of the year said: “There are two teams I missed watching on Nigeria’s professional football league; the Shooting Stars and Stationery Stores. I just wonder what Nigerian league is without the Shooting Stars competing at the highest level. In those days, when Shooting Stars were playing, other teams wanted to know what was happening there. Again, any venue you had the Shooting Stars was the centre of activity

“We’ll like to see Stars really shooting again. If we can revive Shooting Stars and Stores, that kind of oneness and unity that we had in those days would return to our football venues.

“We’re ready to help see the Shooting Stars where it should be. If the governor is not listening, we will make political move to make him listen. Shooting Stars must return to where they rightly belong. The General Manager and other administrators, I offer myself to help, let’s talk, Shooting Stars must return to top flight football.”

SWAN Chairman, Adeniyi Alebiosu thanked Gombe for his contribution to football and sports development in the country. He assured him that the state government is doing everything possible to ensure that the Ibadan darling side returns to top flight football next season.

He further added that SWAN Oyo state chapter as an association would continue to contribute its quota to the development of sports, football and success of 3SC in Ibadan.
