Pep Guardiola is set to sign a contract extension at Manchester City, despite seeing his side dumped out of the Champions League.
Guardiola was brought to the club last season to transform City into contenders for the European title.
But they crashed out at the quarter-final stage on Tuesday at the hands of Premier League rivals Liverpool, who sailed through to the semis 5-1 on aggregate.
Despite more disappointment in Europe, though, it is claimed the club’s hierarchy are pleased with Guardiola’s progress with the squad and will reward him with a new deal.
According to the Daily Mirror, he is set to pen a one-year extension before the end of the current season. The Spaniard’s current contract expires at the end of next term.
While their European campaign went up in smoke this week, Man City are still on course to storm to the Premier League title.
But three defeats on the spin — two to Liverpool in Europe and another against rivals Manchester United — have taken the shine off their brilliant campaign.
