Nigerian senior team coach Gernot Rohr has revealed how he avoided becoming a victim of the Nigerian media.
He says media pressure is intense in the country, revealing he was crucified by the media when he first took over as the Super Eagles coach over a year ago.
Speaking to L’equipe, the Franco-German mentor revealed he initially struggled to keep up with the demands of the Nigerian media.
However, he said he was able to conquer the fear and he now has a healthy relationship with the members of the fourth estate.
”I’m the boss, I have full powers because I won straight away, so my hands became free,” he said.
”But the media pressure is immense in Nigeria. The press are ever present. At first I was careful not to fall into one of the cracks of the media but later I had no such problem.”
Rohr will lead his men to their final Group B match of the qualifiers against Algeria before facing Argentina in Russia in an international friendly next month.
