I can be fit for Champions League final -Kane

Harry Kane is optimistic he will be fit to play in Tottenham Hotspur’s first-ever Champions League final against Liverpool on June 1.

The Spurs captain missed Wednesday’s incredible 3-2 win against Ajax with an ankle injury he sustained during the quarter-final tie against Manchester City last month.

But Kane was in Amsterdam with his team-mates and he was healthy enough to sprint across the pitch to celebrate on the full-time whistle.

“Rehab is going well,” said the England striker.

“I started straight line running this week and I have to start training even harder to prove myself to the gaffer.”

Kane also revealed he went into the Spurs dressing room at half-time, when his team was trailing 2-0 on the night, 3-0 on aggregate and it looked nigh-on impossible for the North London club to progress.

“I’m a fan first and foremost and I know how much it means to the club,” added the 25-year-old.

“It was a disappointing first half and we let them play. I went into the dressing room at half-time and we knew it [the performance] wasn’t good enough. We said we had 45 minutes to give everything.

“The lads dug deep and showed passion and that is all you can ask for. We had to wait to get the third in the last minute and we found a way. That’s what football is about and we have the final to come.”

The final will take place at Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano stadium.
