Speaking with Sporting Tribune, Captain of Ibadan Golf Club (IGC), Seyi Alaba, expressed enthusiasm about the response, citing the growing popularity of golf in Nigeria, especially in Oyo State.

The registration portal has been closed, and the committee is now working on finalising the participant list.

The IGC plans to elevate the tournament by inviting foreign players to compete alongside Nigerian players.

He said, “Having over 250 golfers registered within just 24 hours shows a lot of enthusiasm and passion for the Ibadan Golf Open. It reflects the growing popularity of the game of golf in the country, especially in Oyo State and the strong interest among participants.

“I’m optimistic that the high level of engagement on our course will contribute to a memorable and successful championship.

“With what it’s on ground now, we anticipate increasing the turnout by expanding the registration and organising a hitch-free tournament and creating a welcoming environment where everyone can enjoy the tournament to the fullest.”

Alaba highlighted the importance of the tournament in strengthening community involvement and showcasing Ibadan’s rich cultural heritage.

He emphasised that golf is not just a game, but a lifestyle that embodies values like precision, patience, and camaraderie, reflecting integrity and respect.

The IGC is working to ensure a successful and memorable championship, with plans to expand registration and create a welcoming environment for all participants.
