The Cameroon midfielder provided a final pass for a goal in Saturday’s Russian Premier League away victory for Rubin Kazan as the Nigerian striker failed to convert from 12 yards
Sylvester Igboun failed to add to his league tally of two goals after missing a penalty in Ufa’s 3-2 loss at home to Rubin Kazan on Saturday.
Cameroonian Alex Song made an assist for the winning goal for Elmir Nabiullin’s impressive solo run late in the second half.
The game was turned on its head early on when Ufa goalkeeper Georgi Sheliya was shown a straight red card for a blatant foul outside the box as he attempted to stop Maxim Kanunnikova’s run.
With the hosts a man down, they conceded a penalty that was nicely struck home on 18 minutes by Jonathas to give Kazan a 1-0 lead.
Coach Viktor Goncharenko then took out Nigerian striker Kehinde Fatai for midfielder Dmitri Sysuev on 24 minutes but the visitors doubled their lead moments after as Rubén Rochina struck a shot from outside the box that left substitute goalkeeper Andrey Lunev stranded.
The hosts got a whiff of life just before half time as Sysuev scored to make it 2-1. Dmitry Stotskiy then pounced on Igboun’s rebound to make it 2-2 four minutes into the second half.
The visitors regained the lead via Nabiullin who took a pass from Song and beat the Ufa defence in a solo run before putting the ball in between the legs of Lunev to make it 3-2 on 51 minutes.
Igboun missed his chance to equalise as his penalty kick was stopped on 60 minutes by Sergei Ryzhikov.
