Inter Miami goalkeeper says ‘club not ready for Messi’s arrival’

Inter Miami goalkeeper Nick Marsman has raised concerns about the imminent arrival of Lionel Messi and the state of the club.

As the Argentine superstar prepares to join the Major League Soccer side, Marsman has emphasized the need for significant upgrades and a focus on security by both the league and club owners.

Having decided to join Inter Miami after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires, Messi’s move is expected to be finalized in the coming days, with his debut anticipated later in the season.

In an interview with ESPN, Marsman expressed his worries about the current lack of security measures at the stadium, stating that the squad currently leaves without adequate protection. Given Messi’s stature as a seven-time Ballon d’Or holder and 2022 World Cup winner, Marsman highlighted the likelihood of fans attempting to get close to the iconic footballer at every opportunity.

Marsman said, “I personally think that this club is not ready for Lionel Messi’s arrival. We have a temporary stadium, people can just walk on the pitch, there are no gates. We also leave for the stadium without security. I think they aren’t ready. But I hope he comes.”

Inter Miami have six more league matches in the next 45 days before they take the summer break. Messi is expected to join the club when they regroup after the break from mid-July.
