Liverpool announce signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton

Liverpool have announced the signing of Argentina midfielder Alexis Mac Allister for a reported initial fee of £35 million ($43.6 million) on Thursday.

This transfer marks the beginning of an anticipated rebuild by the club.

The 24-year-old midfielder played a pivotal role in Argentina’s triumph in the World Cup last year, which has significantly enhanced his reputation in the football world.

Mac Allister’s contributions were instrumental in Brighton’s achievement of their highest-ever Premier League finish, securing sixth place, just below Liverpool. Additionally, Brighton’s success also earned them a spot in the Europa League.

“Since I won the World Cup, I said that I want to win more trophies and I think that this club will help me to do that,” Mac Allister said.

“That’s the aim and when you are in a big club like this one you have to win trophies. So, that’s what I want.”

“It’s a dream come true — it’s amazing to be here and I can’t wait to get started,” Mac Allister said.

“I wanted to be in (from) the first day of preseason, so it’s good that everything is done. I’m looking forward to meeting my teammates.”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is facing the task of rebuilding his midfield following the confirmed departures of James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The departures of these players highlight the need for Klopp to strengthen the team’s midfield options.

Liverpool endured a disappointing season, marked by their failure to secure qualification for the Champions League for the first time in seven years. Additionally, the team fell short in their pursuit of silverware, adding to the determination to overhaul the squad and return to winning ways.
