Jose Mourinho sets unwanted record with Manchester United’s Europa League defeat

Manchester United have set an unwanted record under Jose Mourinho following Thursday’s 1-0 loss to Feyenoord in the Europa League.

Mourinho’s men slipped to a defeat in Rotterdam following Tonny Vilhena’s second-half strike.

It was a disjointed display by United, who failed to find any rhythm with Paul Pogba in a midfield three, while Marcus Rashford was left isolated in attack.

And the defeat was United’s fourth consecutive away loss in Europe, which is now their worst run in the club’s history.

Mourinho made eight changes from the team that lost 2-1 to Manchester City in Saturday’s derby at Old Trafford.

Matteo Darmian, Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo and Morgan Schneiderlin were given their first starts of the season, while Rashford was also given the chance to impress in Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s absence.

But United struggled to cause the Eredivisie leaders problems and created few clear-cut chances.

Mourinho made three changes in the 63rd minute as Juan Mata, Anthony Martial and Rashford were replaced by Memphis Depay, Ashley Young and Ibrahimovic, but the substitutions made little difference as Feyenoord snatched a winner 11 minutes from time.
