Only an agreement for Juve to ‘win the Champions League and Serie A’ stopped the move happening, according to Raiola
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho attempted to sign Paul Pogba for Chelsea last year, according to the Frenchman’s agent Mino Raiola.
Mourinho smashed the world transfer record to take Pogba to Old Trafford over the summer but he had apparently attempted to land him at Stamford Bridge.
Only an agreement for Juve to ‘win the Champions League and Serie A’ stopped the move happening, although the midfielder didn’t achieve European glory in Turin.
“Paul could have left [Juventus] last year because [Jose] Mourinho – then at Chelsea – really wanted him,” Raiola said on Thursday.
“But Juventus and I had agreement: win the league title and the Champions League, then he can go.”
Pogba scored his first United goal with a header from a corner in their 4-1 victory over champions Leicester in the Premier League on Saturday.
He appeared in the Europa League last night as the Red Devils laboured to a 1-0 win over Zorya Luhansk.
