Jose Mourinho has had a worse start to the season than either of the other managers who followed Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United — David Moyes and Louis van Gaal.
Mourinho’s men suffered a 2-1 defeat at Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday, as United’s problems went on in the wake of Ferguson’s departure as manager in 2013.
The Portuguese has won eight, drawn three and lost five of his 16 matches in charge as United manager so far. That compares unfavourably to Van Gaal, who had eight wins, four draws and four defeats, and Moyes, who had nine wins, four draws and three defeats.
As well as the defeat in Turkey, Mourinho’s other losses came in the Premier League against Manchester City, Watford and Chelsea — plus another one in the Europa League against Feyenoord.
Van Gaal’s early defeats were against Swansea City, Leicester City and Manchester City — and in the Capital One Cup against Milton Keynes Dons.
Moyes suffered his early setbacks all in the Premier League against Liverpool, Manchester City and West Bromwich Albion.
