Hayatu Mohammed, a football coach in Kano, Nigeria, has been sentenced to 8 years in prison without an option of fine for sodomizing one of his minor players.
The convict was found guilty of committing the offence twice at different locations.
The prosecuting counsel, Barrister Ibrahim Arif Garba, presented five witnesses who testified against Hayatu, and the presiding judge, Justice Musa Dahuru Mohammed, ruled that the evidence proved Muhammad’s guilt.
The Kano football coach was sentenced to four years for each count, with the sentences to run concurrently, starting from the day of the judgment.
Justice Dahuru emphasised that the offence contravened Section 284 of the Penal Code Law. The court also noted that the defendant’s actions were a serious breach of trust, given his position as a coach and authority figure to the victim.
