Lacazette goal celebration against Everton slammed by Garth

Garth Crooks made room for Alexandre Lacazette in his Premier League team of the week but took issue with the way he celebrated his superbly taken goal.

Arsenal were lucky to be level at the break after Petr Cech had made a string of fine saves and took the lead 11 minutes after the restart when Lacazette collected Aaron Ramsey’s pass, shifted the ball onto his right foot and curled a venemous shot past Jordan Pickford.

The France international celebrated with some nifty dance moves, just as he had after bagging the winner against Cardiff earlier this month, but Crooks would have preferred to see a more conservative reaction to the goal.

He said: “In the end, one goal was enough to win the game against Everton, and when you score a superb goal like Alexandre Lacazette’s one for Arsenal, you are entitled to celebrate.

“What I don’t get is the appalling disco jig that follows. Why spoil such a wonderful finish with such a spine-chilling dance? What’s wrong with punching the air or running to the crowd?’

Crooks would not have had an opportunity to take issue with Lacazette’s dance moves had Unai Emery substituted his striker, as he had been considering.

“It’s not important, but yes,” Emery replied when asked if he planned on replacing Lacazette.

“At that point we needed a change to stop their attacking moments but then we scored and I decided to think again.”
