Leicester secure deal for Liverpool’s Danny Ward

As per reports across the English media this afternoon, Leicester City have clinched a deal for Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward.

Ward, a 25-year-old Welsh international, has been on the books of Liverpool since 2012, when he made the move to Merseyside from Wrexham as a highly-regarded youngster.

However, despite the Reds having long tried and failed to find a consistent option between the posts, Ward has struggled for game-time throughout his stint at Anfield, sitting behind the likes of Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius in the goalkeeping pecking order at the club.

As such, the shot-stopper was sent out on 3 consecutive loan spells between 2015 and 2017, with his most recent stint away from Liverpool, at Huddersfield Town during the 2016-17 season, having seen Ward impress on his way to 43 Championship appearances.

But, after returning to Anfield last summer, the 4-time capped international struggled for time on the pitch once more, eventually managing just a solitary appearance in the League Cup over the entirety of the campaign.

As such, it had long been predicted that Ward would finally be moved on on a permanent basis this summer, with recent reports having suggested Leicester City as a potential destination.

And, after a rapid progression in talks between the two clubs today (on the back of Liverpool securing a deal for AS Roma star Alisson), it is now being reported that a deal for Ward to make the move to the King Power Stadium has been struck, with the Welshman set to hold talks over personal terms with the Foxes imminently: #lcfc have agreed a fee with Liverpool for goalkeeper Danny Ward. Coming in as competition for Kasper Schmeichel, not as a replacement. Ward set to meet with Leicester in next 24-48 hours #llfc
