“Liam has shown that he can build teams with a clear way of playing while setting the highest standards with players on and off the pitch.

“While there will continue to be a focus on player development, the Club’s expectations and ambitions remain high.

“Liam has the ability to get the best out of this squad quickly and joins us with the responsibility and the backing to ensure Chelsea continues to compete at the top level in all competitions this season and in seasons to come.”

Rosenior replaces Enzo Maresca, who left the club on New Year’s Day.

“I cannot turn down this opportunity to join an incredible club, an incredible squad who are Club World Cup champions,” Rosenior said.

The 41-year-old joins from Strasbourg, who are part of the BlueCo ownership group that also controls Chelsea. He confirmed that Strasbourg first-team coach Kalifa Cisse, assistant head coach Justin Walker and head of analysis Ben Warner will join him at Stamford Bridge.

“I would not have accepted the Chelsea job if I was not ready,” Rosenior said, “There are clubs you just cannot turn down.”

Rosenior was appointed Strasbourg manager in July 2024 and guided the club to seventh place in Ligue 1 last season, securing European football for the first time in eight years. His final game in charge was a 1-1 draw at Nice on Saturday.

Chelsea are currently fifth in the Premier League and face Fulham at Craven Cottage on Wednesday.
