LIGUE 1: Veteran defender Sergio Ramos confirms PSG departure

Veteran defender Sergio Ramos has announced his departure from Paris St-Germain (PSG) following the conclusion of their Ligue 1 season on Saturday.

This comes as the second significant exit revealed this week, following the confirmation of Lionel Messi’s departure from the club.

Taking to Twitter, Ramos expressed his farewell to PSG, describing it as the end of another chapter in his life.

“Tomorrow is a special day, tomorrow I say goodbye to another stage of my life, goodbye to PSG,” said Spanish great Ramos on Twitter.

During his tenure with PSG, the Spanish football legend made 57 appearances, clinched two French titles, and joined the team in 2021 after departing Real Madrid.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the president of PSG, praised Ramos for his leadership, team spirit, professionalism, and extensive experience at the highest level of the game. Al-Khelaifi considers Ramos a true football legend and expressed his honor at having him at the club.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said: “Sergio’s leadership, team spirit, and professionalism, combined with his experience at the highest level, make him a true football legend, and it was an honour to have him in Paris.”

Ramos, who holds the record for the most international appearances for Spain, has an illustrious career that includes winning the World Cup, two European Championships, and numerous domestic titles during his time at Real Madrid.

His arrival at PSG, alongside fellow winner Lionel Messi, was seen as instrumental in their pursuit of the coveted UEFA Champions League.

Despite facing injury setbacks in his first season and PSG’s elimination from the Champions League at the last 16 stage for the second consecutive season, Ramos contributed significantly during the current campaign.
