Man City beat United, pile pressure on Amorim

Manchester City returned to winning ways in devastating fashion with a 3-0 demolition of Manchester United in Sunday’s Premier League derby at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s side, stung by back-to-back league defeats, showed no mercy against their bitter rivals, as goals from Phil Foden and Erling Haaland underlined the gulf between the two Manchester clubs.

Foden broke the deadlock midway through the first half, finishing off a slick City move that sliced through United’s flimsy defensive line. City’s dominance grew after the break, and Haaland, who had earlier produced a shocking miss from close range, made amends with a trademark header to double the lead.

The Norwegian striker then sealed the victory late on, coolly converting after a sweeping counter-attack to leave United manager Ruben Amorim facing mounting scrutiny.

United barely laid a glove on City throughout, their lack of intensity and defensive frailties again ruthlessly exposed.

The result restores momentum for City in the title race, while United remain in disarray, with questions swirling around Amorim’s future after yet another abject derby showing.
