Man United’s Onana seals loan move to Trabzonspor

Manchester United goalkeeper, Andre Onana, has completed a loan move to Turkish side Trabzonspor for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

The deal, confirmed before the closure of Turkey’s transfer window on Friday, comes after the Cameroon international was left out of United’s first three Premier League games of the campaign.

Manchester United noted that the move is subject to international clearance and registration, while wishing the 29-year-old “good luck” in his new challenge.

Onana’s only appearance this season came in the shock Carabao Cup defeat to League Two side Grimsby Town, a performance that added further doubts about his Old Trafford future.

Signed from Inter Milan in July 2023 for £47.2m by then-manager Erik ten Hag, Onana was brought in as a long-term replacement for David de Gea. He went on to make 102 appearances for United and played a role in their 2024 FA Cup triumph.

However, his spell in Manchester has been marked by inconsistency and high-profile errors.

United’s current boss Ruben Amorim opted to bring in Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens, 23, from Royal Antwerp on deadline day in a deal worth an initial €21m (£18.1m) plus add-ons.

Amorim will now choose between Lammens, Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton for Sunday’s clash against Manchester City.
