Man Utd want Ndidi

Manchester United are looking to sign Nigeria midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi if they eventually fail to get French player, Raphael Varane, Tribunesport has reliably gathered.

The Red Devils have been on the trail of Varane, a defender, since the days of retired manager Alex Ferguson in 2011, when Real Madrid beat them to the signature of Varane, then playing for Lens in the French Ligue 1.

Manchester United’s renewed interest in Varane resurfaced in the last days of Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford. Recall that Mourinho, sacked on December 19 by Manchester United, was at the helm in Real Madrid when Varane was signed seven years ago.

But if again they fail to get Varane, Manchester United are lining up Leicester midfielder Ndidi, who started his European career at Belgian club Genk as a defender.

Among the factors considered to be in favour of Ndidi are the rates of his tackles and interceptions which average 5.5 and 1.9 percent per game respectively since his debut for Leicester City on January 7, 2017.

The plan to sign Ndidi is against next season when the management of Manchester United hopes to have brought in one of Zinedine Zidane, Maurizio Sarri, Massimiliano Allegri and Antonio Conte as the head coach.

Ndidi’s issue was said to have been thoroughly discussed in a meeting Manchester United’s vice chairman Ed Woodward held with the club’s owners, the Glazer family, where the decision to sack Mourinho was also taken.

At the meeting, it was also disclosed that in case Zidane gets the job, the belief is that Ndidi, whose credentials were thoroughly scrutinised at the meeting, will fit into the Frenchman’s 4-3-3 diamond and 3-5-2 pattern, as well as any of the other listed coaches’ styles.

The 4-3-3 diamond made Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo so tick in the Champions League in the last three seasons.

All the decisions taken at the meeting were said to have been communicated to interim manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer immediately he came on board with the Norwegian promising to abide by them all. Instructively, in one of his statements after resumption, the former Manchster United forward Solksjaer had said: “The demands at the club are to be a team player.”
