Manchester City register Gabriel Jesus in time for Tottenham match

Gabriel Jesus has been finally given clearance to play for Manchester City and will be eligible to play in Saturday’s Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

Jesus, 19, joined City in a reported £27 million deal from Palmeiras in the summer but he remained with the Sao Paulo club on loan, helping them to the Brazilian title in November.

He arrived in Manchester on Jan. 3 but was not given permission to play while the Football Association completed its due diligence process.

“I’ve watched [the Premier League] and I notice it’s a very hard, intense style of play. I hope to adapt as quickly as possible,” Jesus told City’s official website. “I’m going to try to take it all in and adapt.

“I know it isn’t going to be easy, but it only depends on me to put in the effort to adapt. I can’t feel scared, being given an opportunity like this to change my life. There are more challenges and opportunities to change the lives of my family members, to give them opportunities, so I can’t be scared of anything.”

The Brazil forward has been training with the first-team squad since shortly after his arrival and could make Pep Guardiola’s squad for the game with second-placed Spurs on Saturday.

City fought off competition from clubs including Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain to sign Jesus, who has become a regular for the Brazil national team winning six international caps and scoring five goals.
