Mignolet dropped from Liverpool squad

Mignolet has been left out of the Liverpool squad to face Arsenal.

Liverpool’s Belgian goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has been surprisingly left out of the squad to face Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

English publication ‘The Daily Mail’ claims that the Mignolet will player no part in the game having been completely left out of the ‘reds’ squad.

The move would appear to suggest that Jurgen Klopp will go with German goalkeeper Loris Karius, though he does also have Welsh international Danny Ward to call upon.

Klopp said at the start of the season that Mignolet was his number one, making today’s news even more of a shock ,with the Belgian having done nothing wrong in the opening weeks of the season.

Mignolet took time to establish himself at Anfield, whilst Karius enjoyed a frustrating first season in English football last term following his move from Mainz.

The German made a series of high-profile mistakes and largely failed to impress onlookers but it seems he is about to be given a fresh chance.

Should he be given the nod, Sunday’s game will be Karius’ first Premier League appearance since Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with West Ham on December 11 2016.
