Modric may leave Real

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has given no guarantees he will stick with the club beyond the end of his current contract.

Croatia international Modric has enjoyed wall-to-wall success since joining Real from Tottenham in 2012, as he has helped the club to 14 major titles, including four Champions League successes.

The 33-year-old also played a starring role as Croatia reached the World Cup final this summer and his form for club and country saw him become the first player other than Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi to win the Ballon d’Or in over a decade.

Modric’s current contract is due to expire in June 2020 and Real are certainly keen to tie him down to fresh terms, although the player himself has given no guarantees over his long-term future.

“The only thing certain for now is that I’ll be with Madrid until the end of my contract,” Modric told Sportske Novosti.

“Perez told me straight away in the summer – get it out of your head that you’re leaving Real, we have no theory to let you go.”
