Mourinho risks ire of Man United faithful with post-match comments

Despite seeing his Manchester United side bow out of the UEFA Champions League in the round-of-16 after a lacklustre performance against Sevilla, Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho remained defiant and risked alienating himself from the club’s fanbase with a fiery post-match presser.

In spite of spending well over £120 million for each the past two seasons, Mourinho has struggled to get the Red Devils back at the top of the football pyramid and Tuesday’s loss at Old Trafford was the final straw for many fans, but the best (or worst, depending on your viewpoint) was yet to come.

United were completely listless across both legs of their continental fixture against Sevilla, drawing the first in Seville 0-0 and then proceeding to lose the second one at home 2-1.

“That is not the end of the world. I sit in this chair twice in the Champions League and I knock Man United out at home at Old Trafford,” an adamant Mourinho stated at his post-match press conference.

“I sit in this chair with Porto, Man United out, I sit in this chair with Real Madrid, Man United out. So is not something new for the club and of course being Manchester United manager and losing a Champions League tie at home is a disappointment, obviously.”

While the Portuguese, who has won the competition twice, was refereeing to his past triumphs over the Red Devils, the timing of those statements didn’t go down well with United fans as most of them called for the Premier League giants to sack the manager.

As the 2017-18 season winds down, it is highly unlikely that United will sack Mourinho but the Portuguese doesn’t seem to have the support of the fanbase any longer, even if he enjoys the confidence of the club board.
