Napoli fan stabbed in the buttocks before match against Besiktas in Istanbul

News comes after fans of the two sides were filmed fighting with weapons at a train station in the city

A NAPOLI fan was stabbed in the backside during a mass brawl before his team’s match against Besiktas in Istanbul last night.

Turkish media outlet Tribun Dergi report that the supporter was knifed in a fight early yesterday evening.

Despite the stabbing, the fan was reportedly able to catch his flight back to Italy after the match, although other Napoli supporters were arrested.

Videos emerged last night of the two notorious sets of fans having a scrap, with weapons, at a train station in the city.

Screams and sounds of glass smashing were heard during the footage of the fight, which took place before the two sides drew 1-1 at the Vodafone Arena.

Portuguese European Championship hero Ricardo Quaresma opened the scoring for Besiktas before Marek Hamsik equalised for Napoli.

Even before last night’s violence, Manchester United fans travelling to watch their game against Fenerbahce were told to remain on alert.

A police escort has been arranged for Red Devils supporters, who will enter the stadium through caged tunnels.

Istanbul has a horrific reputation for knife violence at sports events.

In 2000, Galatasaray hooligans stabbed Leeds supporters Kevin Speight and Christopher Loftus to death before a UEFA Cup semi-final.

And two years ago a Red Star Belgrade fan was killed before a basketball match, also against Galatasaray.
