Speaker, House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has promised the support of the National Assembly for the timely completion of the state-of-the-art NFF-FIFA Players’ Hostel which was launched on Tuesday at the Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
The Speaker, who was the special guest of honour at the event, gave the assurance during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Hostel which will serve as accommodation for all the national teams with new training pitches.
Abbas, who described the project as a big boost for Nigeria sports commended the leadership of the National Sports Commission and the Nigeria Football Federation for coming out with such laudable projects which he said will bring a lot of savings in terms of expenditure, will bring a lot of revenue as well as enhancing efficiency and competitiveness of all the players of the various national teams.

“My own here today is to say that history is about to be made. For the very first time, the sporting sector is getting a very big boost, a boost from FIFA and other stakeholders. From the intervention of the National Sports Commission and of course the NFF, we are able to facilitate some very important projects.
“Projects that will have far-reaching effects to the sports development of this country. It will bring a lot of savings in terms of expenditure. It will bring a lot of revenue at the same time enhance efficiency and competitiveness of all our boys and girls.
“It’s my pleasure to identify with this noble project, a project that will see to the construction of hotel accommodations and some other projects that will be of far-reaching effect for our dear country.
“I want to categorically make it clear here that the National Assembly particularly the House of Representatives is very happy with this initiative, is very happy with the progress and will collaborate in every way in ensuring that this projects are not only completed in good time but giving additional support.
“I also want to pledge the commitment of the House that we are willing and ready look at other areas that will be captured by this initiative. Going forward, we’ll also look at other areas that need the intervention of the National Assembly,” the Speaker said.
The NFF President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, in his remarks, described the event as a new era for Nigerian football saying the projects were part of his campaign promises while he was campaigning to become the head of the Federation.
“It’s a new era for Nigerian football. This is about providing a conducive environment for our players and make them comfortable. This is part of our campaign programs and we are very happy about it. We’ll save a lot of money from this (project) and commit it to grassroots football development. This is a testament of our commitment to develop our football to global standard,” Gusau said.
