New clauses in Rohr’s contract in Nigeria’s interest —Akinwunmi

The First Vice President Nigeria Football Federation, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi has declared that the clauses in the new contract papers of the Super Eagles Manager Gernot Rohr are meant to improve his efficiency and productivity.

According to the Lagos Football Association Chairman, the clauses are also geared towards enhancing domestic football and giving home based players the opportunity to in the senior national team..

Akinwunmi said: ‘I am bold to say that the clauses inserted in the new contract papers of the national team coach were not aimed at discouraging the Franco-German from renewing his contract but to improve his efficiency and productivity and also to to give the home based players the opportunity to play in the national team’

He added that the coach has agreed to signing a new contract with the federation but has not signed as being speculated in some quarters.

“He has only agreed to signing a new contract with the federation and the update on the contract renewal will be announced by the NFF Secretariat at the appropriate time,” he said.

Speaking further with Tribunesport Sunday Akinwunmi retreated that the five hundred thousand dollars given to the federation by the world football governing body, the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) is not a Covid 19 palliative in the sense insinuated by some Nigerian sports enthusiasts adding that the money is meant for the running of football in the country.

“A lot of people believe the $500,000 we recently got from FIFA is Covid-19 palliative. Actually it is the annual fund due to Nigeria. And it is meant for the running of Nigeria football. It’s not to be shared by stakeholders”, Barrister Akinwunmi explained.
