Neymar is facing two months out and has no chance of being fit to face Real Madrid in the Champions League last-16 second leg, according to his father.
The Brazil and Paris Saint-Germain forward was carried off in the 3-0 win over Marseille at the weekend after breaking a bone in his foot.
“PSG already know they will not have Neymar in the next few games, six weeks minimum because this treatment will last six to eight weeks,” Neymar Sr said in an interview with ESPN.
“That is already certain, regardless of surgery. What we can’t do is something that may cause a fracture in the future.”
His absence from the Madrid match on Tuesday is a huge blow with PSG attempting to overhaul a 3-1 first-leg defeat at the Bernabeu.
“Yes, of course, he is out against Real Madrid,” said his father.
“It is absurd if anybody thinks otherwise.”
The comments made live on air to a sports talk show contradicted those of Paris St Germain manager Unai Emery, who had said the 26-year old could be ready for the season-defining clash against Madrid.
Neymar has scored 28 goals and provided 16 assists for PSG this season.
