Niger State is set to draw the curtain on this year’s U-17 Speaker’s Cup football competition on Saturday, 1 April in Minna, the state capital.
The third edition of the competition, organised in honour of Honourable Ahmed Marafa, the Speaker of the Niger state House of Assembly, began on March 13 among the 25 local government areas of the state.
The highly contested competition will now have the two finalists, Tafa and Katcha Local Government Areas battle for the coveted trophy at the mini- sports complex of the College of Education, Minna.
The match which is expected to kick off at 3pm will be witnessed by the state FA executive members, led by the chairman, Comrade Ahmed Yusuf Fresh.
The Niger State governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, will grace the occasion as the special guest of honour as well the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly.
Speaking ahead of the final, the state FA chairman, Fresh told Tribunesport that it is a final to behold as the finalists have played what he described as good football.
“The two local governments played very well in the preliminary stage and we expect good football on Saturday,” Fresh said.
Fresh had earlier disclosed that the tournament is bankrolled by the state’s ministry for local government and chieftaincy affairs.
