Adamu Aliyu, Chairman, Niger Tornadoes FC of Minna, has commended the clubs U-15 team for qualifying to the second stage of the 2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Promise Tournament.
Aliyu, who gave the commendation on Saturday in Minna, said that the team played their matches at the Abuja centre.
“I have followed the tournament with keen interest and seen the progress that they have made.
“We will continue to monitor these boys as they have enough potential.
“I urge the people of Niger to pray for these boys to succeed which will be an addition to the success recorded by the main team in the 2016/2017 NPFL,’’ he said.
He commended the good efforts of the technical crew led by Nuhu Babayo and Suleiman Umar.
“They did well to get to the second round of the tournament,’’ he said.
The chairman urged the coaches and other officials to continue to play their fatherly roles to enable the boys win the tournament.
He said that the League Management Company (LMC) introduced the tournament to groom players at their tender ages.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Niger Tornadoes 2017 U-15 side will depart Minna on Sunday for Lagos for the second round of the tournament scheduled to begin on April 25 and end on April 29.
NAN also reports that the Tornadoes U-15 team played 2-2 draw with Plateau United, defeated Nasarawa United 3-1, played a 1-1 draw against Rangers and won Lobi Stars 4-0 in the last game to secure the ticket to the second round.
Meanwhile, Aliyu also commended the Niger Tornadoes main team for occupying the fourth position on the 2016/2017 NPFL table with 30 points.
He, however, urged them to redouble their efforts when the second stanza begins assuring them that their welfare was guaranteed.
