Nigeria moves 3 steps up FIFA ranking

NIGERIA moved three steps up in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World ranking for the month of September, released on Thursday.

 

In the new ranking, Nigeria, with 534 points, is now 64th in the world while it however remains outside of the top 10 on the African continent. It is the 14th in Africa. The country garnered 513 points in August.

Nigeria played one match in the month under review and the Super Eagles triumphed 1-0 in a 2017 African Nations Cup qualifier against Tanzania. The match, which result was insignificant, was the first under new manager Gernot Rohr.

Cote d’Ivoire moved two steps up to the 34th position to remain number one in Africa, while Algeria, down by three steps, is second on the continent and the 35th in the world. Senegal, also up by two steps, is third in Africa and the 39th in the world.

Other countries in the top ten in Africa are Tunisia (4; 42), Ghana (5; 43), Congo DR (6; 51), Egypt (7; 53), Congo (8; 54), Mali (9; 55) and Morocco (10; 58).

Brazil is the bigesst mover among the top ten countries in the world. The South American country moved five steps up to place fourth, while Germany ascended a step to the third position.

Conversely, Colombia dropped by a step to the fourth position. Argentina and Belgium remain in the first and second position respectively.

Uruguay (9th) and Wales (10) are the only two countries that made it into the top ten in the month of September.
