Ahead of Nigeria’s clash with Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions in a 2018 World Cup qualifier, governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state has declared a one-day prayer summit to bolster the Super Eagles to victory.
The qualifier holds on September 1 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium (Nest of Champions), Uyo.
Speaking at a meeting with the president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, on a courtesy call to him at the Government House, Uyo, Emmanuel said the prayer session, which would also commemorate the state’s 30 years of creation, would spur the Eagles to victory.
He noted that the spiritual approach would help in building confidence in the Eagles to triumph over their opponents, just as he urged fans to be in the vanguard of Nigeria’s victory by participating in the spiritual warfare.
Emmanuel pledged to involve experts in rejigging the Eagles during the training periods, adding that “both the training and the match proper would serve as a morale booster to youths in Akwa Ibom”.
Meanwhile, Pinnick said he was on a mission to Akwa Ibom to enlist the support of the state in the area of logistics including transportation, accommodation as hosts of the Eagles.
He assured Nigerians that the players were in top shape to deliver victory to football fans who were disappointed at the outcome of the last game against South Africa also in Uyo in June this year.
“The Super Eagles will not only qualify, but will also make impressive outing in the World Cup competition,” Pinnick said.
