NIS DG commends NNL, BetPawa partnership impact on players

The Director General of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Comrade Philip Shaibu, has expressed optimism that the partnership between BetPawa and the Nigeria National League (NNL) will uplift and motivate the players.

Citing his experience as a former player of Bendel Insurance in the lower league as a former deputy governor of Edo State, Shaibu said that his interactions with players provided him with valuable insights into their mindset, behaviours and what motivates them.

He, however, believed that the partnership will yield a positive impact supporting the remarks made by Nigeria Football Federation NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau and others.

While emphasising the critical importance of funding and welfare for athletes including access to healthcare and financial support, the NIS DG commended the collaboration between the NNL and BetPawa saying it will not only boost the economy but also enhance the lives of players.

According to him, the NIS is focused on “housekeeping” and improving its systems to attract more partners while developing quality coaches and athletes for the country.

He expressed enthusiasm about the inclusion of female teams in the initiative, recognising their current successes and significant contributions to Nigerian sports.

Sporting Tribune reports that BetPawa and the NNL signed a N500 million one-year sponsorship deal, a reward system designed to directly benefit players after every victory while also boosting club and league revenues.

Under the scheme, 20 registered players and three technical staff per team will share a ₦1.288 million bonus per win with each player receiving ₦56,000 instantly via a digital platform.

Additionally, the NNL will earn ₦400,000 per match played each weekend creating a sustainable dual-impact system for both athletes and league administration.
